Panshanger Football Club Match Reports
Match Date: 01/02/2009 Panshanger Team: Under 15 Panshanger Whites Opponent: Colts Admirals U15
| Venue: Home Score: 6 - 0 Author: Nickola Loft | On the first anniversary of the sad passing of a fellow club member, Panshanger Whites lined up alongside Harpenden Colts Admirals this weekend and paid tribute to Mathew Blease with a one minute round of applause. Feeling the effects of an impending blizzard, both sides were slow to start, until Captain Charlie Kelly opened the scoring with an absolute screamer of a volley from 30 yards out, nearly breaking the back of the net in the process. This lifted the Whites spirit no end, and a flurry of chances followed, with Nathan Hill coming closest with a shot from close range just going over the bar. In the second half, Captain Kelly again donned the keepers’ jersey and, despite a minor back injury following a bizarre gardening incident the day before, managed to pull off some amazing goal line clearances to ensure the Whites kept a clean sheet. Some quality through balls from the midfield combination of Rob Smith, Ryan Mitchell and Jae Stevens allowed centre-forwards Warren Clayson and Michael Montague to convert further chances. And for the first time this season, getting a corner right allowed right back Aaron Hemsley to sneak in unnoticed from the back and head one passed the hapless Harpenden keeper. Additional goals from on-form Chad Austin and Lewis Whitehead sealed the lead at 6-0 to the Whites, with each goal having Mathews name on it.

Match Date: 31/01/2009 Panshanger Team: Unknown Team Opponent: Park Rovers U10
| Venue: Home Score: 2 - 8 Author: Kevin McEleavey | ''Another battling performance, during which we created a good number of goal opportunities. Our defeat, by 8 goals to 2, did not reflect accurately the many positive aspects to our play. The performance was even more creditable in view of the fact that we were caught cold at the start and went two goals behind in the first few minutes. We fought back, applying pressure to the Wodson goal and coming close to scoring ourselves on a couple of occasions. Wodson scored a third, but we continued to attack and were rewarded just before the break, when Owen K. prodded the ball past the goalkeeper from close range after a period of sustained pressure. 3-1 to the visitors at half time. In the second half, we almost immediately conceded a fourth goal, but heads didn't drop and we embarked on another period of pressure, with the boys firmly believing they could still win. Hopes were raised when Brandon reduced the deficit with a fine low shot from just outside the penalty area. Owen K. and Nathan both went close as the team piled forward in numbers in search of more goals. Play flowed from end to end, but it was Wodson that scored all of the remaining four goals in the match to complete an 8-2 victory. Despite the final score, all team members should be very positive about the determined nature of this performance, which augurs well for the games ahead.''

Match Date: 24/01/2009 Panshanger Team: Unknown Team Opponent: Heath Juniors U10
| Venue: Home Score: 2 - 4 Author: Kevin McEleavey | ''A very pleasing performance and a close fought match against Hertford Heath, the result of which could have gone either way. We started the game solidly, repelling the visitors' attacks and applying some early pressure on their defence. Mid way through the half, we took the lead. Some good work by Paul on the left, lead to his shot being parried by the goalkeeper and Nathan calmly slotting the ball into the net. The game continued to flow, with chances at both ends, but it was Hertford Heath who scored the next two goals, to lead 2-1 at half time. They scored a third just after the break, but strong tackling by the two Alex's and Brandon and some fine reflex saves by Logan kept us in touch. We reduced the deficit when Owen K. used his pace to get clear of the last defender and coolly shot low past the goalkeeper. Herford scored again, but we continued to battle and almost struck back on two occasions. Owen K. almost mirrored his goal, with another fine shot which went agonisingly close to the post, with the goalkeeper well beaten. Then an Alex LB tackle in our penalty area, followed by a long through ball to the right, ended in Paul firing just wide. All in all, there was much to be positive about. All ten players fought to the end, defending and creating chances. If this approach can be maintained in the coming matches, points will surely follow.''

Match Date: 24/01/2009 Panshanger Team: Under 10 Panshanger Whites Tigers Opponent: Yellows Panthers U10
| Venue: Home Score: 1 - 2 Author: Peter Higgins | MOM - Ryan Avery - made some intelligent runs and unlucky not to score A frustrating day against spirted and well organised opposition. A game in which we dominated from first to last whistle, but somehow mananged to lose. The effort was there, but two lapses in concentration and a lack of composure in front of goal, combined with a fantastic display from the Panthers keeper, meant our good approach play went unrewarded. Special mention to Josh who did everything expected of him on his debut in goal

Match Date: 18/01/2009 Panshanger Team: Unknown Team Opponent: Margaretsbury Youth U16
| Venue: Away Score: 2 - 3 Author: Lee McDonald | we turned up at St Margaretsbury with team captain ben unavaiable,Lewis and Josh absent as well as coach Pete who was still throwing up. So we only had 10 players. We started really well putting pressure on the ball and working their socks off with the home team putting us under pressure but we still had enough chances to score as well then Ginge broke the dead lock with a stunning strike from 10 yards. The home team were awarded a very harsh pen but nozzell saved really well, but just before half time St Margaresbury scored. We came out in the second half really strong with Captain McNaulton leading by example and every member of the team really working hard.A great ball in from Brad allowed Nathan to nick in and score, we then scored a third ginge hitting a shot in after a block from their defender did not clear there lines,, St Margaretsbury scored a second but the lads battled on slowing the game down frustrating their opponents. Well done lads you were a credit to yourselves and the club and thanks to Liasia for the jaffa cakes.

Match Date: 18/01/2009 Panshanger Team: Unknown Team Opponent: Rangers Bulldogs U12
| Venue: Home Score: 2 - 2 Author: Steve Maggs | In the first game of the year the boys got off to a very shaky start going 1 down with the first few minutes. A second soon followed coming from a quick counter attack after some Leopards pressure.
Two down in 5 minutes didn’t look good but the boys fought back well and deservedly pulled one back before half time with a well taken goal from Abel. Dan was also unlucky not to get on the score sheet following a good run from Andy.
The second half saw good chances for both sides with Gerry and the visitor’s keeper both kept busy. Continued pressure paid off with Abel getting his second (and third for the weekend!) to make the final score 2-2.
Overall a fair result.

Match Date: 17/01/2009 Panshanger Team: Unknown Team Opponent: Margaretsbury Youth U10
| Venue: Home Score: 0 - 10 Author: Kevin McEleavey | ''The boys struggled to find their true form after several weeks without a match and were well beaten by a good St Margaretsbury side. The visitors applied pressure from the outset, were quicker to the ball and passed their way to goal effectively. They maintained their level of performance throughout the match, scoring five goals in each half for a comprehensive 10-0 win. We created few clear chances in response, but kept trying until the end. Players' player of the match was Logan''.

Match Date: 17/01/2009 Panshanger Team: Under 10 Panshanger Whites Tigers Opponent: Sharks U10
| Venue: Home Score: 1 - 5 Author: Peter Higgins | MOM - Matthew Eamens. Very composed in goal today, and produced some great saves and good handling A performance to be proud off against one of the best teams in whole league. The first 15 minutes where very eaven, with the Tigers unlucky not to take the lead. However, Wheathamsted are a good passing side, and managed to open us up defensively and took their chances well. 2-0 at half time. The second half continued in the same vane with Wheathamsted adding a third, to our credit, heads did not go down and from the restart, Alfie managed to find \"H\" in space who slotted ball to give the Tigers hope. This was not to be as Wheathamsted held their nerve to run out 5-1 victors. The whole team can be proud that the scoreline flattered the opposition, and that we can compete at a much higher level. Well done boys

Match Date: 13/12/2008 Panshanger Team: Under 10 Panshanger Whites Tigers Opponent: Heath Juniors U10
| Venue: Away Score: 2 - 3 Author: Peter Higgins | MOM – Alfie Adcock – A bundle of energy, especially in the second half Panshanger Whites Tigers travelled to play Hertford Heath in their last game of the year. Biting wind and non stop rain made for far from perfect conditions, however this did not affect the Tigers as they made a positive start with an early goal from Euan Wallace. Panshanger continued to dominate proceedings, but due to some determined defending from Hertford, chances were few and far between. One exquisite touch and instant shot from Daniel Priolo nearly bought the second goal, but the effort just shaved the post.
The second half started fairly evenly, with the Heath showing some attacking ambition, producing a succession of corners. A mix up from one of these saw the ball dribble over the line. To the credit of Panshanger, heads never went down and we saw some great attacking play especially from Alfie Adcock, who was a constant menace down the left wing; This drew a number of fouls, with the resultant free kicks causing chaos in the opposition penalty area. Finally the second came with another run from Alfie who fired in a fierce shot which the keeper could not hold. Soon after a long range Euan Higgins free kick found its way in to the bottom corner to make the score 3-1. Hertford kept battling and right at the end their pressure resulted in a well worked goal from a corner. This was followed by the referees whistle to the delight of the travelling fans. A real team performance in difficult conditions.

Match Date: 06/12/2008 Panshanger Team: Under 10 Panshanger Whites Tigers Opponent: United U10
| Venue: Home Score: 4 - 2 Author: Peter Higgins | MOM - Matthew Eamens - Made a vital save at a crucial time - A real turning point A real game of two halves. Greenbury Utd started the brighter, with some very good play, and creating numerous chances and corners. Against the run of play Ryan Avery netted his first goal of the season, after a great run and cross by Josh Milton. Greenbury continued to make several chances, but the Tigers rearguard really dug in to block, tackle and harass the opposition. The second half started in much better fashion for the Tigers, who began to impose their attacking play resulting in Alfie Adcock finishing of a slick move. Greenbury never gave in and managed to claw back two goals, and shortly after the second they broke again, but a fine tackle by Kalum Baker and an even better save from Matthew Eamens proved to be the turning point of the match. Shortly after Euan Higgins burst through notching his 20th goal of the season, and with a few minutes remaining and Greenbury pressing high up the field, a quick ball out of defence released Alfie who finished calmly for his second of the game.

Match Date: 06/12/2008 Panshanger Team: Unknown Team Opponent: Warner Blues U10
| Venue: Away Score: 4 - 1 Author: Kevin McEleavey | ''The boys got off to a good start, tackling vigorously and pressing John Warner back into their own half. Their efforts paid off when Brandon passed the ball through to Nathan, who in turn slid it past the last defender to put Paul in on goal. Despite the close attentions of several defenders, Paul made no mistake, hitting a firm shot past the goalkeeper into the corner of the net. We maintained the pressure and came close to scoring a second as we gained a series of corners. But, it was John Warner that scored the next goal, then added two more to take a 3-1 half time lead. We started to tire in the second half, but battled away well and demonstrated lots of resilience. Logan's good saves in goal helped to thwart the John Warner attacks and we were able to limit them to just one further goal. We also created a couple more chances of our own, but were unable tp put them away. The final score was 4-1 to John Warner, but there were some very positive aspects to our performance, in particular, the way we battled on to the end. Players' player of the match was Paul.''

Match Date: 29/11/2008 Panshanger Team: Unknown Team Opponent: Rangers Reds U10
| Venue: Home Score: 2 - 5 Author: Kevin McEleavey | ''A game in which we relentlessly attacked the Bury Rangers goal, but, disappointingly, never played to our potential. We were caught cold at the start of the match as Rangers started strongly, first hitting a post, then scoring the opening goal. We hit back and both Lorenzo and Paul were foiled by fine saves from the visiting goalkeeper. Two more break away goals from Bury made it 3-0 at half time. In the second half, the boys applied a lot of pressure and went agonisingly close on at least half a dozen occasions, but it was Bury that made the most of their chances, scoring twice more to open up a 5-0 lead. We finally got on the scoresheet with first Paul, then Harrison, firing home shots to give us some hope and momentum. Despite continued efforts and further opportunities, we couldn't add to our goal tally in the remaining few minutes. Final score, a disappointing 5-2 defeat''.

Match Date: 22/11/2008 Panshanger Team: Unknown Team Opponent: Yellows Panthers U10
| Venue: Away Score: 1 - 2 Author: Kevin McEleavey | ''All eleven squad members contributed to the fantastic team spirit shown throughout this hard fought win over a well-organised and resilient Panthers side. The boys attacked from the first whistle with Paul, Nathan, Alex L.B. and Harrison all helping to apply early pressure to the Panthers' goal. Nathan swung in some dangerous corners and all tackled with determination as we pinned the opposition back in their own half. Ten minutes into the match Alex L.B. picked up the ball on the left, then cut inside, before bursting between two players and slotting the ball into the corner of the net past the advancing goalkeeper. In defence, Brandon and Owen McC. thwarted the Panthers' attacks with their timely tackles and interceptions. In goal, Logan remained composed and demonstrated very confident ball handling skills. Ten minutes before the break though, a Panthers' free kick from the left edge of the penalty area was guided into the net. Minutes before half time, the Panthers almost took the lead after a scramble in the penalty area, but Brandon put in a saving tackle on the line. 1-1 at the interval. In the second half, we continued to attack with Owen K's pace creating a number of openings. The boys took the lead when Owen K. forced a save from the goalkeeper. Alex L.B., following up, took the ball into the penalty area. When it rebounded out, Matthew curled a delightful left foot chip over the goalkeeper to make it 2-1. Panthers applied more pressure, but Alex F., Brandon and Logan held firm in the face of a barrage of corners and attacking throw-ins. In breakaway attacks, Paul, Harrison and Owen K. all went close to scoring a third goal. One final Panthers' attack was foiled by a decisive Alex F. clearance. The final whistle went soon after, to give the boys their first league win of the season. Well done to all! It was unanimously agreed that this week's man of the match should be the whole team.''

Match Date: 22/11/2008 Panshanger Team: Under 10 Panshanger Whites Tigers Opponent: Park Rovers U10
| Venue: Away Score: 5 - 1 Author: Peter Higgins | MOM - Euan Higgins - Took his goal and created some good opportunities for himself and others A strange game in which we dominated two thirds of the game. Offensively we created many chances, however defensively our concentration was not there. A positive start so us in the Wodson half for the first 5 minutes, but we couldnt take advantage and Wodson broke away twice to score after some sloopy defending. Heads didnt drop and we applied more and more pressure and we finally got the break though. The second half was more of the same, with good pressure from the Tigers, countered by some decisive finishing from Wodson. What we learned today; we need to be more positive in our defending and a lot more accurate with our finishing
